Wednesday Word: Be Teachable

•

This week I find myself a little bit short for words because I’m preparing for a speaking engagement on Monday night. But last night as I was wracking my brain for a piece I was missing to draw my message together, the Spirit dropped an old yet familiar verse into my head. That verse proved to be a valuable link, although I wouldn’t have necessarily thought about it in that light had it not appeared in the moment.

That’s something I love about scripture. Because the Bible is the living word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12), there are new always lessons to be learned. We should always be learning and growing in our personal lives, and the same verse can teach new lessons in new seasons. Scripture isn’t ever limited to just teaching us once.

This is why we hide scripture in our hearts. A verse or passage learned in one season can resurface in another season and make a new connection to a new lesson.

Scripture grows with us. And God is the One who gives the growth at the right time.

Today, I hope that you’ll consider revisiting familiar passages of scripture and opening yourself to being taught in a new way. God is the Gardener (John 15) and delights in sending forth His word because He knows it will not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:8-11). He is the One who gives the growth (1 Corinthians 3:6-8). And above all, He is good.

Be teachable. There is so much more to learn about God than our minds can comprehend, yet we should strive to never stop wanting to learn just a little bit more.

Blessings,

~Lynne
