I am a terrible person.
No, no, don’t blow me off and brush it under the rug. I’m terrible! I get mad at my husband. I fuss at my child. I yell at people on the road when I’m driving. I won’t go further than that, but you’re all human like me. You know that all kinds of broken, terrible, human things happen behind our smiling faces.
But God…

God could have left humanity in its brokenness after the Fall in the Garden. He could have turned His back and given up. But God didn’t. He chose instead to pour out grace upon grace, mercy upon mercy. Every step from the Fall to the Cross showed the depth of care for His creation and His desire to bring about redemption. He paved the way for Jesus, who in turn paved the way for us to go to His Father’s House one day to be with Him forever. Only mercy could have achieved that. Only grace could have made that possible.
A song chorus by one of my favorite bands, Tenth Avenue North, says this:
“Grace, only grace
Can roll your dead heart’s stone away
Grace, only grace
Can move us to a rhythm that will change our ways”

Without grace, we have dead hearts. Only the grace and mercy of God can roll the stones away and allow life to come forth. Only the grace and mercy of God can begin a new rhythm that results in lasting change.
It wasn’t over that day in Eden. And even if you think you’re a terrible person and too far gone, it’s not over for you either. But God… can step into your story and begin a new thing. But God… made a way for me and you.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV): “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works so that no one can boast.”
Remember His grace in every moment. We aren’t abandoned. We are loved.
Blessings,
